Enrollment

A short, guided checklist. If anything is unclear, call the office — we would rather walk you through it than have you guess.

Who Can Enroll

Families living in the district
Students who live within the Big Springs Union Elementary School District boundary may enroll in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade.
Families outside the district
Students living outside the boundary may request to attend through an interdistrict transfer. See the interdistrict transfer section below, then call the office.
Transitional kindergarten age
TK eligibility follows California age requirements. The office can confirm whether your child qualifies this year.
Child care and preschool
Younger children may be eligible for the state-licensed child care and preschool program on campus.

Interdistrict Transfers

Families who live outside the Big Springs Union Elementary School District boundary may request an interdistrict transfer (IDT) so their student can attend Big Springs.

Start with your district of residence. The parent or guardian first submits a complete interdistrict transfer request to the district where the student lives. Then provide Big Springs with reasonable evidence that the request is pending — a copy of the submitted request, an email confirmation, or similar documentation.

Provisional attendance. Consistent with California Education Code section 46603, Big Springs may provisionally admit an otherwise eligible student for up to two school months while a final interdistrict transfer decision is pending. The provisional period begins on the student's first day of attendance.

Provisional attendance is not final approval. It does not guarantee approval by either district, or by the county board of education on appeal. If the final decision is still pending at the end of the two-school-month period while the agencies remain within their lawful timelines, the student cannot continue attending provisionally unless another lawful basis for attendance exists.

Once the residence district's approval or release is received, Big Springs completes the receiving-district portion of the transfer.
